There are some exciting changes coming to Duolingo for Schools! Please bear with us as we make changes to our Help Center to best reflect user experience. Duolingo offers the following social features for users: a discussion forum, an events page, and social profiles. We find that these features allow our users to interact more fully and more organically as they move along their respective language-learning journeys.. However, we recognize that some of these features may not be ideal for classroom use.
You may select which of these features your students have access to in your classroom settings. Simply select the button labeled, “Privacy settings” on the left-hand bar and simply deselect any features you’d like removed from your classrooms.
You’ll notice that these settings also include the opportunity to adjust what type of content students interact with on Duolingo. Learn more about that here.
Please note that although student accounts do include a "Settings" page on which students can make adjustments, your classroom settings will override any student selections related to privacy.
That means, for example, that even if a student changes their account settings to be able to accept friend requests, but your classroom is set to disable friend requests, your students will be unable to make friend requests. Ultimately, your classroom will be reflective of the selections you make in the settings, and not those of your students.
