If you’re ready to begin supplementing your instruction with Duolingo for Schools, but not quite sure where to begin, we are here to help! By working on Duolingo for just fifteen minutes per day, for one school week, you can have your Duolingo for Schools classroom up and running!
Day 1: Familiarize yourself with the platform.
Visit schools.duolingo.com and log in--you can use your personal Duolingo account or your school email to create a Schools-specific account. Next, create your classroom! Consider adding your email as a student so you can see the app through your students' eyes.
Day 2: Invite students to join your classroom.
Add your students from your Duolingo for Schools teacher dashboard. Don’t forget to print the PDF at the last step; it has all your students' login information and instructions! Budget additional time as needed for this step, based on how many classes you teach.
Day 3: Sample a lesson with your students.
Open the Duolingo for Schools student account that you created in step one. Complete a think-aloud by modeling a lesson for your whole class to observe.
Day 4: Create classroom procedures.
Work with your students to determine appropriate times for them to utilize the app on their own, such as when they finish their work or while they wait for class to begin.
Day 5: Extend students' learning outside of class.
Provide structures or incentives for your students to utilize Duolingo for Schools outside of the classroom. Consider XP (experience) assignments, where students earn points based on participation, to encourage them to further their learning journeys. Just a few minutes a day will keep their skills fresh!
