Once you’ve created your classroom, you can add students in a few different ways:
Add students by sharing the classroom link
With this option, you will provide your students with a link to your Duolingo classroom to log into an existing account or create a new one. They can also log into their existing Duolingo account first and only then use the link you provided.
You can find your classroom link by going to the Students tab, then clicking Manage Students to open the dropdown and click Add Students.
This will open a small window with the information you are looking for.
Note: For students who share devices, please make sure to check they are logged out before moving to the next student. It is also recommended that they clear their browser cache often to prevent some common errors.
Add students by sending them your class code
Another option is to have your students manually add the classroom code. Ask your students to visit duolingo.com/classroom and enter your class access code to become a member of your classroom. This should happen after a quick refresh if they are logged into a Duolingo account. Otherwise, they will be prompted to sign up for an account.
You can find your classroom code at the end of your classroom link - the 6-letter code. You can also follow the same steps you took to find the link, and the code will be there.
Students with existing accounts have an option within their Settings page to join a Duolingo classroom. They can find that on the web by clicking the three dots (where it says "More") on the left menu and then clicking Settings.
After getting to the Settings page, they will see a Duolingo for Schools option on the right, and this will take them to a page where they can join your classroom by typing the classroom code.
This option also exists through the Duolingo app on mobile devices. Your students can click on the profile icon at the bottom of their screen and click the gear icon in the top-right corner.
The Duolingo for Schools should be the first button right below their information. After clicking that, they will be taken to a page where they can add the classroom code.
Import students using Google Classroom
With our Google Classroom integration, you can add your Google Classroom roster to your Duolingo for Schools account, and it will continue to sync with any adjustments you make throughout the year. For more detailed instructions on this process, read this article.
Note: Duolingo imports only your students' names and email addresses. No assignment information will be shared between Google Classroom and Duolingo.
Add students by creating accounts for them
To use this option, select the “add directly” tab. From there, follow the instructions in the gray box to add your students’ information.
Start adding your students’ names. If they have email addresses, enter a comma after each name and add their emails. If they do not have email addresses, check out this article! When you are done adding names, press "Next." From there, you will be brought to a review screen to make any needed edits or adjustments. This screen will also let you know if some of your students already have a Duolingo account. We’ll send these students an email invitation to have them join your class.
Once you have verified all the information, you can download the login information for your students to set up their accounts, and you're all set! Additionally, an email will be sent containing a roster of student usernames and passwords for your reference. Please note that regardless of the method you use for classroom creation, you will want to limit classroom size to 50 students to ensure that your classroom runs smoothly.
Once students log in, they can change their usernames, emails, and passwords anytime in their settings. Let's start learning!
